I’m driving my son to his mate’s house and he’s flicking through stations on the car radio, trying to find a decent pop song to listen to - something that doesn’t sound like it was composed using sampled microwave keypad beeps. Then he’s accidentally flicked onto a golden oldies station. He’s keen to flick off, but I tell him to wait a sec.
In the space of thirty seconds I’ve gone from being bored to horny to a tragic figure whose only true love is dead.
Thank you, Williamstown, for being so much a part of our show at the Williamstown Literary Festival on Saturday 17 June.
We designed our album covers, our costumes and our amazing stage shows. Not only would we have a full-size movie screen behind us but Andrew would have a drum kit so large that he would need to get extendable robot arms to be able to reach them all. We also planned out the itinerary for our world tour.
Stereo Stories' first concert for 2017 was a 90-minute show at The Stage Door Studio, an intimate performance space tucked away in a corner of the Wangaratta Showgrounds. The night kicked off with the starkness of State Trooper and finished with a rousing blues jam.

Darren 'Smokie' Dawson Various venues, Victoria, New South Wales, 2015, 2016 Never in my wildest dreams did I envisage how my short tale of a doomed teenage relationship would give me such a great rush every time I took to the lectern to share it. At a Stereo Stories show, a writer's words are given greater depth and clarity by the excellent Stereo Stories band.
Stereo Stories' first foray interstate was the Write Around the Murray Festival in Albury on Saturday 10 September. We did a two-hour dinner show at Albury LibraryMuseum: three half-hour brackets of stories inspired by songs and then a chance for the band to really stretch out and flex its muscles.
Newport, Melbourne Saturday 2 July, 2016 Stereo Stories performed a 45-minute bracket at the 2016 Newport Folk Festival in Melbourne on Saturday 2 July. We were the first cab off the rank, with a midday gig on the festival's main stage at the Newport Bowls Club. Take a look, folks.
We've dipped our toes into the world of YouTube, with footage from our sell-out show at the Williamstown Literary Festival on Saturday 18 June 2016. Many thanks to writers, musicians, organisers and audience for a terrific evening of music and memoir. And huge thanks to BenZen Video Productions for filming and editing the evening.
