Speers Point, Awabakal Country, Saturday 12 and Sunday 13 October 2024

we are sequenced cells receptive to

the rhythms of ‘Walking in Memphis’ replayed arrhythmically by a covers act

the rhythms of us walking in Speers Point late at night

the rhythms of traffic passing along the esplanade

the rhythms of blood types pulsing through closed circuits

the rhythms of breaths taken from our bedroom

the rhythm of Marc Cohn repeating ‘Walking in Memphis’ through my phone

the rhythm of Florence Welch repeating ‘Morning Elvis’ through my phone

the rhythms of teaspoons tinkling round interiors of teacups

the rhythm of that clock ageing in the kitchen corner

the rhythms of two cats purring along to pats

the rhythms of list poetry reread aloud

the rhythms of birds repeating songs of rebirth in mid-spring
