From our archives, a story by Rick Kane, which says, in part:
You’re Dolly fans, yes? Then you well know how well she tells a story in a song. Coat of Many Colours, Jolene, Working 9 to 5. You get the point. There are many ways in which she controls the story but her magic is her voice. And so I was led into the song, I Don’t Believe You’ve Met My Baby by her beautiful, beguiling, tender, fragile, wistful and melodious voice.
And J.Negri wrote on our partner site Almanac Music some time ago:
It is her voice that is like a fishing hook that catches in my sea of emotion. Her voice is as natural as a bubbling brook that flows from a trickle to a waterfall, from quiet to strong and back again. It is completely unaffected, unforced and pure. She simply opens her mouth and out it comes. No trick of the light or smoke and mirrors there. Just out it pours, ringing true.
