i.

i arrive—

her tuxedo cat rests

on my garment bag

 

ii.

morning sun

through the flame tree—

we relish bagels

 

iii.

mid-walk, we spot

a kookaburra—

stillness

 

iv.

we kiss

in the nature reserve—

sugar gliders 

 

v.

late check-in…

our freshly lit fire

fills the fireplace

 

vi.

log cabin in the bush—

we hear the theme

to Twin Peaks

 

vii.

she points out words

inscribed on the boardwalk’s handrails…

poetry on swans

 

viii.

we stroll hand in hand—

wildflowers grow

o’er old train tracks 

 

ix.

sixteen red roses—

the first time we say

three short words

 

x.

her moon boot

she           still           steps

me through Cuban salsa

 

xi.

we share

a private train compartment—

steam

 

xii.

we wake amidst treetops

& open blinds—

two rainbow lorikeets

 

xiii.

lookout

railing o’er the estuary—

our lock

 

xiv.

boarding call—

she walks me as far

as the departure gate
