Seddon, 2025

Richard Andrew, my dear brother, died in October 2024. He was a solo artist, member of Underground Lovers, Registered Nurse, Princess One Point Five,  Crow and a range of other bands.

He collaborated with countless musicians and released their work on his own Pharmacy Records label.

He was also my all-time favourite Australian drummer.

The song Same Room emerged out of some multitrack sound experiments I was messing around with prior to Richard’s birthday this year. You can hear these experiments as single, overlapping guitar notes forming chords at the start of the song.

I added a 12 string electric, a parlour guitar and a couple of ukuleles to create the bed of the song. I scribbled out some words as placeholders and sung them over the instruments.

It was only when I listened back that I realised that Same Room was about Richard, his death, my grief and a deep, unquenchable longing for more time together.

Strange, how the heart speaks.
