Bendigo, Dja Dja Wurrung Country

As I age

towards death,

I’ll never forget

the sights

the sounds

the (e)motions

of departing

Mum’s

Service of

Thanksgiving.

I walked

as steadily and silently

as possible

with Mum’s white casket

past all those familiar faces

and through certain sound waves

that vibrantly shook the winter air

with one of Mum’s fave songs—

the soulful hit

‘I Say a Little Prayer’

by the undisputed Queen

of Soul

and Singing

More generally—

the late, great,

phenomenally gifted

artist

Aretha Franklin.
